Paleo Chocolate Avocado Truffles

One of my favorite things about paleo desserts is that they are the perfect balance of sweet and savory.  Don’t get me wrong, I love almost all things sweet, but sometimes I’m not in the mood for an incredibly sugary cupcake.  (Shocking, I know!)  That’s why paleo desserts, especially these dark chocolate avocado truffles, are the perfect treat to curb my cravings.

These paleo truffles come together quickly, except you need to soak the dates for three hours beforehand.  This ensures that the texture will be luscious and creamy.  There is no added sugar (a huge plus!) and they’re packed full of healthy fats from the avocado.

Rolled in an extra dusting of cocoa powder, they’re a lovely combination of slightly sweet and bitter.  A very adult treat in my opinion.  They’re really decadent and you can feel good about eating them, which is always a bonus.  Paleo, gluten-free, wheat-free and dairy free.  Give these truffles a try – I bet they won’t last long.

Paleo Chocolate Avocado Truffles

  • Total Time: 3 hours (plus 3 hours prep time to soak the dates)
  • YIELDS 10 truffles


  • 1 medium ripe avocado
  • 1/2 cup dates, soaked for 3 hours and drained
  • 1/4 cup dark cocoa powder (plus extra for dusting)
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoon melted coconut oil
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoon coconut flour
  • dash sea salt


  1. Place all ingredients in a food process or high powered blender.
  2. Blend until super smooth, about five minutes.
  3. Roll the mixture into small truffle balls, and roll each ball in the extra cocoa powder.
  4. Place dusted balls on a plate/tray covered in parchment paper.
  5. Refrigerate 2-3 hours until hardened.
